The Residence was named after Empress Alexandra, wife of Nicholas I. She received it as a gift from the Emperor in 1829 and later, the royal family relaxed there during Russian summers, away from the hustle and bustle of court.
The landscaped park and its small palaces with rural names such as Cottage or Farm palace, curvy paths and hilly meadows, romantic garden pavilions – all these make Alexandria an ideal place for a beautiful stroll, as once did the Russian Royal family. There is even a Gothic chapel, adding yet again to the diversity of Saint-Petersburg architecture!
This park is one of the few places where you can combine sightseeing with a relaxed bike ride through the romantic landscape and along seashore.
