There are five railway stations in the city: Baltic, Vitebsky, Ladozhsky, Moscow and Finland stations. All the stations are located near the city center and well connected with city transportation. St. Petersburg railways provide international connections to Finland, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Lithuania, Estonia, Bulgaria, Latvia and all former republics of the USSR.

Cruise ships from the countries of Baltic Sea region regularly arrive to the city from April to October. Besides St Peter Line provides ferry service on a regularly basis: two ferries sails from Helsinki and Stockholm (service is visa free).

There is also the possibility to get to the city tacking one of the regular river cruises from Moscow. River port is on the Neva river embankment, a bit away from the city center.

You can take an advantage of the cheapest way of travelling — by long distance bus. International bus routes connect St. Petersburg with Baltic and some former Soviet countries. Several private companies, both foreign and Russian, offer comfortable bus trips from Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia. A trip from Helsinki, for example, takes about 7-8 hours.

Public transport covers practically all Saint Petersburg districts, including newly built suburbs, and many routes pass through the city center. Fares are quite low, but during rush hours transport is overcrowded. It may be more comfortable for tourists to move around the city by taxi: there are many taxi services taking orders online or by phone.
