The palace on the Moyka river embankment is one of the four surviving St. Petersburg residences owned by the Yusupov family. It was purchased by Prince Nikolay Borisovich Yusupov in 1830. The interiors were redesigned and decorated by the best masters, and a separate building was constructed to house a unique collection of painting and sculptures. Most of the gala halls and living rooms filled with carved furniture and gilded chandeliers preserved till our times.
Did you know that the Yusupov dynasty was established in 1563 and derived from a Muslim khan Yusuf-Murza? Then you will not be surprised visiting the Moresque room or Aladdin`s cave in the Yusupov palace. Book a tour, and come up marble staircases, look into private boudoir, admire onyx fireplaces and discover the legends surrounding Rasputin’s murder, which took place in the basement of the Yusupov Palace on 17th of December 1916.
