This beautiful onion-domed church has become one of the symbols of St. Petersburg, that all visitors to the city must see, but the looking at this truimph of Russian architecture from the outsie alone is not enough to appreciate its true beauty.
The story of its constuction is connected to one of the most dramatic events in the history of Russia — the assassination of Alexander II (known as the tsar liberator), who abolished serfdom in Russia. By order of his son Alexander III, the church was built to commemorate Alexander`s achievements and was reachly decorated with mosaics both from inside and outside.
Do not miss the chance to look inside and discover the story and the legends of the Cathedral of the Savior on Spilled Blood, and to admire its 7000 sq.m. of mosaics.
