Ivan Aivazovsky. For the 200th Anniversary

The Russian Museum is preparing an exhibition of Ivan Aivazovsky (1817-1900), one of the best-known marine artists in Russia and all over the world. His art is a symbol of the infinite love to the sea and ships, as well as the desire to capture the ever-changing nature in a given moment of time.

From the large number of works created by Aivazovsky (based on his own estimate, approximately 6000), the exhibition will display about 200 paintings and graphic works, memorial and photographic materials. The visitors will see the masterpieces by Aivazovsky “The Ninth Wave” (1850), “The Wave” (1889), as well as the painting from the Peterhof State Museum, Tsarskoe Selo, St. Petersburg Central Naval Museum, St. Petersburg Naval Cadet Corps.

The exhibition will take place in the Benois wing of the State Russian Museum from December 22.2016 till March 20.2017.
