Peterhof is a majestic complex of palaces, gardens and fountains, laid out according to the design of Russian Emperor, Peter the Great, and sometimes referred as the “Russian Versailles”. Peterhof is recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Every year in May the complex`s unique system of over 150 fountains is turned on in a grand ceremony featuring lights, music and fireworks.
The first official opening ceremony of Peterhof`s fountains took place in 1723. Since that time up untill the early 20th century Peterhof was a place of amusement for Russian royalty and the nobility. Nowdays the Peterhof complexes, gorgeous views, beautiful fountains and gardens, 18th century sculptures and ‘trick’ fountains surprise and entertain everyone.
