The annual “Night of Museums” event is an event that has long been in need of acclaim. It is well known to Petersburgers and visitors of the city and always attracts thousands of participants – from very young children to the elderly. On the night of the 19th of May to the 20th of May, the exhibition grounds of the Northern Capital will open their doors to all comers. The museum festival will begin at 18:00 and will last until six in the morning. This year’s theme is “Metamorphosis”.
Although some people consider museums to be the guardians of traditions, as conservative places where there is no development nor impulse for creativity, the “Night of Museums” will surely prove them wrong. Unexpected discoveries, amazing reincarnations and transformations will happen in the museum halls. Concerts, performances, author meetings, master classes, historical reconstructions and much more will also be organised across the city in honour of the event.
In the workshop of Anikushin you will see how sculptors work and with a little luck, you may even become a model for a fantastic portrait. In the Museum of buses in “Port of Sevkabel,” they will tell you how public transport retires and what happens to it after that. The Botanical Gardens will present a program on plants that have become prototypes for architectural structures…
More than one hundred exhibition spaces, concert halls and galleries take part in this event and all of them can be visited on a single ticket for 400 rubles. Tickets are sold from May 1 in museums and in city ticket offices. On the night of the event, they will be sold at all venues. Night buses will ferry visitors between museums and the metro will work all night long.
