In honour of the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s 85th season-opening, this concert, ballet and gala will combine the old and the new to create a magical and memorable evening of the arts.
The evening will consist of two acts.
Act I consists of a ballet in one act named “Class Concert”. Asaf Messerer’s critically acclaimed choreographic composition, originally produced in the late 1950s for the Bolshoi Ballet Academy and which first premiered at the Mikhailovksy Theatre in 2014, has now been revived by the none other than Mikhail Messerer, the Mikhailovky Theatre’s Ballet Master in Chief. This imaginative yet focused portrayal of the ballet dancer’s journey from beginner’s exercises to the heights of virtuosity depicts the entire arsenal of classical dance techniques. This one act-ballet is not only a treat for the audience but equally so for the dancers. Through the elegant music and ambitious yet perfectly enacted moves, these stars of the classical stage, revel in the opportunity to let their individual artistry shine through.
This wonderful ballet is not only a lesson in the classical art but also in persistence and passion, elegance and grace and of course, a great love for such a beautiful art form.
Act II will consist of a gala during which some of the most famous names of the ballet industry will gather on stage and thank the Mikhalovski Ballet for its long-standing devotion to ballet and theatre.
