Our favourite songs, the emotional atmosphere inherent in every performance as well as the enchanting voice of band leader Nikolay Rastorguev, “Lyube” will be heard on February 25 in Petersburg at the BKZ “Oktyabrsky”. This un-missable concert will, as per tradition, take place on the holiday for all men – the Day of the Defender of the Fatherland.
The group is certainly not subject to any fashion trends, remains true to itself and does not stray from its chosen path. Since the very beginning, central themes of pride and nostalgia, of love for both people and country accompany military yet poetic lyrics to create a moving and memorable evening. It is a great compliment to “Lyube” to acknowledge that not one of their songs have become obsolete and have all remained Russian classics. For example, many people believe the song “Horse” to be an old folk song, but in fact, its composers are none other than Igor Matvienko and Alexander Shaganov. The band have several times over received the Golden Gramophone for their hits and in 2002, “Lyube” was awarded the title of People’s Group of the Russian Federation. In 2015, in the town of Lyubertsy, where the band originated, on the pedestrian street Smirnovskaya, a monument named “Guys from our yard” was erected for the 25th anniversary of the group.
Every Russian knows the group “Lyube”. They are to each family almost like distant relatives. The idea of creating the group came to the producer and composer Igor Matvienko. Nikolai Rastorguev, who used to work in a different band “Leisya, song”, was chosen as the frontman and in January 1989 at the studio “Sound”, the then-unnamed band began recording their first songs – “Lyubertsy” and “Father Makhno”. The name of the group “Lyube” was later proposed by Nikolay Rastorguev since he himself came from the Moscow region of Lyubertsy.
The life of numerous generations of Russians is connected to the creativity of Lyube. Among the constant listeners of Lyube’s fan base are people of completely different ages and status, and despite the new cultural trends and the change of musical tastes, one way or another, attachment to “Lyube” has remained unchanged. More than 4 million people have attended the band’s concerts.
